The story of Prophet Musa (Moses) and Pharaoh

The story of Prophet Musa (Moses) and Pharaoh

is one of the most well-known and significant narratives in the Islamic tradition. It is mentioned extensively in the Quran and serves as a powerful lesson in faith, resilience, and the consequences of arrogance and oppression.

According to Islamic teachings, during the time of Prophet Musa, the Pharaoh (Fir'aun in Arabic) ruled Egypt. Pharaoh was a tyrant who oppressed the Children of Israel, who were descendants of Prophet Yaqub (Jacob). The Pharaoh enslaved the Israelites and treated them harshly.

Prophet Musa was born at a time when Pharaoh had ordered the killing of all male newborns among the Israelites, fearing the rise of a powerful Israelite leader. However, Musa's mother, inspired by Allah, placed him in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile River. He was discovered and adopted by the Pharaoh's own family.

As Musa grew up, Allah chose him to be a prophet and messenger to guide the Israelites and challenge the tyranny of Pharaoh. Musa was granted miracles by Allah, such as his staff transforming into a snake and his hand glowing with divine light to strengthen his message.

Musa confronted Pharaoh and called upon him to worship only Allah and release the Israelites from bondage. Pharaoh, driven by his arrogance and disbelief, refused to comply and even challenged Musa's divine mission. As a result, Allah sent a series of punishments to Egypt, known as the ten plagues, which included various catastrophes such as the turning of water into blood, locusts, darkness, and the striking of the Nile River.

Despite witnessing these miracles and punishments, Pharaoh and his followers remained obstinate. Finally, when the Israelites were able to escape, Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them to the Red Sea. Musa, with Allah's command, struck his staff, and the sea miraculously split, creating a pathway for the Israelites to cross safely. However, as Pharaoh and his army pursued them into the sea, the waters closed in, drowning Pharaoh and his soldiers, thus delivering justice and liberation for the oppressed Israelites.

The story of Prophet Musa and Pharaoh illustrates the ultimate power and authority of Allah, the consequences of arrogance and oppression, and the importance of faith, patience, and resilience in the face of adversity. It also highlights the crucial role of the prophets as conduits of divine guidance and mercy for humanity.

Prophet Muhammad

Prophet Muhammad, also known as Muhammad ibn Abdullah, was born in Mecca, Arabia, in the year 570 CE. He is considered the last and final prophet in Islam. Muhammad received his first revelation from Allah (God) through the Angel Gabriel in 610 CE, marking the beginning of his prophethood.

Muhammad spent the early years of his life as a shepherd and later worked in trade, gaining a reputation for his honesty and integrity. At the age of 25, he married Khadijah, a wealthy and respected businesswoman, who provided him with emotional support and financial stability.

In 610 CE, Muhammad experienced a life-changing event known as the Night of Al-Qadr (Night of Power), during which the first verses of the Quran were revealed to him. Over the next 23 years, until his death in 632 CE, Muhammad received revelations from Allah, which were compiled to form the holy book of Islam, the Quran.

Muhammad faced numerous challenges and opposition in spreading the message of Islam. He faced persecution, resistance from the Meccan elites, and often had to flee to different cities to protect himself and his followers. In 622 CE, he and his followers migrated from Mecca to Medina, an event known as the Hijra. This migration marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.

In Medina, Muhammad established a society based on Islamic principles and worked to unite the diverse tribes and communities under the banner of Islam. He also engaged in defensive battles against those who threatened the safety and existence of the Muslim community.

Muhammad's leadership and teachings had a profound impact on the Arabian Peninsula and beyond. His emphasis on monotheism, justice, equality, compassion, and moral values laid the foundations of Islam. He is regarded as not only a prophet and religious leader but also a political figure and a social reformer.

After a long and eventful life, Prophet Muhammad passed away in 632 CE in Medina. His legacy continues to shape the lives of over a billion Muslims around the world. Muslims hold a deep reverence for him and strive to follow his teachings and example as a guide for personal and societal conduct Prophet Muhammad had a total of 13 wives throughout his lifetime.
